propylthiouracil
(51-52-5)
6 Propyl 2 Thiouracil · 6-Propyl-2-Thiouracil
Propylthiouracil (PTU) is a medication used to treat hyperthyroidism. This includes hyperthyroidism due to Graves' disease and toxic multinodular goiter. In a thyrotoxic crisis it is generally more effective than methimazole.
methimazole
(60-56-0)
Tapazole · Metizol · Mercazole
methylthiouracil
(56-04-2)
6-methyl-2-thiouracil
Methylthiouracil is an antithyroid preparation. It is a thioamide, closely related to propylthiouracil. Methylthiouracil is not used clinically in the United States, it has a similar mechanism of action and side effect to that of propylthiouricil.
Carbimazole
(22232-54-8)
Herbrand Brand of Carbimazole · Neo Tomizol · Sanofi Synthelabo Brand of Carbimazole
Carbimazole is used to treat hyperthyroidism. Carbimazole is a pro-drug as after absorption it is converted to the active form, methimazole. Methimazole prevents thyroid peroxidase enzyme from coupling and iodinating the tyrosine residues on thyroglobulin, hence reducing the production of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4 (thyroxine).
6-Benzyl-2-thiouracil
(6336-50-1)
Basdène · benzylthiouracil · Hexaspray
Benzylthiouracil (BTU) is an antithyroid preparation. It is a thioamide, closely related to propylthiouracil.
